Update to my last post. I went to the Western Digital website to see if there was some type of information missing. After navigating through their website, I saw the technical support telephone number and decided to call hoping they wouldn’t have me on hold for an extended period. They answered very quickly and their support personnel talked me through the process of getting the hard drive to format on my Macbook. By tonight I will transfer all of my media files over to the external hard drive and I will be up and running on the Final Cut Studio software. Yea!

This is my latest update on where my final Digital Media Project stands. I have encountered some problems with transferring my videos from one hard drive to another. I purchased a new external 750GB hard drive but for some reason, the permissions are set to read only for my Macbook. I have tried using it on the iMacs in the library and the permissions state the same thing, “Read only”. Today I will totally uninstall the software from the Western Digital “My Passport hard drive from my computer and will attempt to re-install the software on my Macbook.

I hope to be successful at this attempt. I am at a stand still for now because putting the Final Cut Studio on my Macbook because the software takes up 50 GB of space. Neither my old external hard drive or my Macbook has enough space for the install. I will know by later this evening whether my new external will be working. My adobe software is still consistently crashing and making it hard to be productive with my work when at any given time, the software just goes down. So right now, this is a frustrating process because it seems at every alternative I take to make any advancements, there are only more obstacles to climb.

Project: Sports Highlight & Recruitment Video:

The latest updates:

I have almost finished my first sports highlight video. I am incorporating the use of 3D Invigorator Pro, which is a plug-in for Adobe After Affects. This software has its’ own interface inside of the software. It is similar to the plug-in for Adobe Photoshop. Adobe Premiere Pro is the video editing software of choice, Adobe Encore to apply Menus, Submenus and Bonus content to along with burning the media to a DVD. I will use Photoshop to make custom graphics that will in turn, be used as the background designs for my Lightscribe DVD. Adobe Soundbooth is the software I will use to edit my audio for proper sound transitions and effects.

I will be using a Lightscribe DVD drive purchased as an external drive for my Macbook Pro to Laser print my DVD covers designs on a Lightscribe DVD. The Lightscribe DVD/CD labeling software version for the Mac has also been installed. To avoid and copyright infringement laws, I was given this website, www.freemusicplay.com. I have registered with the company and downloaded applicable background music as I saw fit.

I have run into a few issues with my Adobe software, Premiere Pro and Encore. The software keeps crashing and locking up my computer. I thought I solved this issue by reinstalling the software over the Christmas holidays but to new developments, the same issues have struck once again. They are causing long waiting periods for the media to process and then everything stops and then it crashes. It is a very frustrating process.

I have begun to do sample graphics with 3D Invigorator Pro and they are looking pretty good. I run into a problem of not knowing how to animate 3D Text in this software. I began to look at the “browse Presets” in Adobe Bridge to do a cross-reference of how After Affects applied animation settings to 2D text in 3D space. I have not yet found a solution to this problem. My professor has suggested the use of Blender, which is also a 3D modeling software. I will go that route if no information is retrieved in After Effects.

Windows XP Networking
Will Jones

Objectives

Configure a Static Route Network

Equipment List

Router-2, computer-2, crossover cable, hub-2,

Notes and Observations

This is a very detailed process. Configure both router 1 with the e0 with IP address 192.168.14.1 and f0 with 192.168.16.2.

configure router 2 with e0 192.168.16.1 and f0 192.168.15.2. The method used to test connectivity is ping Ip address. The test ws not successful because the RIP (Router Internet Protocol) was not set up yet. The show IP interface brief were operational but there was no routing established at that point. Routers cannot talk between each other until RIP is set up.

Static routes are needed because this will allow routers to talk to each other

used the “show ip route and when compared to previous attempts of the routing table we were now able to connect router 1 to router 2.

after rechecking connectivity between the routers the results were 192.168.14.0, 192.168.15.0, 192.168.16.0 [1/01] via 192.168.15.2

are directly connected.

When configuring the RIP we followed strict step outlined in the class handout. We had to record the output for later comparison. The results were: C 172.17.0.0/16 is directly connected, Fast Ethernet 0, 172.16.0.0/16 is directly connected, Ethernet 0, 172.18.0.0/16 [120/1] via 172.17.0.2 00.00:14, Fast Ethernet 0.

The router rip differs from configuring static routes by having to manually enter information and RIP enters the information for you. When would you elect to use a routing protocol? Use the route protocol almost all the time. When should you use static routes? at the end of a network and is not going to change.
At each router type show ip route how do they differ from before? The IP address was missing.

References

In class Lab Handout
and the use of internet if necessary.

Conclusions

The purpose of this lab was to learn and understand how to increas the throughput on the netwrok if it will remain unchanged over time by using a static route information instead of routing protocol.

Objectives

Learn about the HTTP and FTP servers, which are two of many available services that can operate on a TCP/IP network.

Equipment List

A computer
connected to the network.

Notes and Observations

The following section includes the laboratory handout to describe the procedures followed.

References

Lab Handout, and in class use of the Internet.

Download and Install a Web Server

1. First step was to download the Apache web server and test your local host for functionality also known as the “loopback address.”

2. Next was the creation of a simple homepage. Using a word processor or text editor . You do this by creating a text file and replacing the existing index file with the one you created in the document root and save it with the same name.

4. The FTP client was the next on the list things to accomplish. The server software that was used was the Filezilla software which is a widely known and used software.

Conclusions

I was absent from this lab exercise but I have used FTP clients prior to this lab although I am not too familiar with all of the commands that are able to be used in the command prompt.

Windows XP Networking
Will Jones

Objectives

Introduction to the network and to explore some features of the basic network infrastructure.

Equipment List

Computer w/ XP or Vista,

LAN connection

WINSCP software with network settings

Observation. I noticed that I am not able to link to the WINSCP website from my personal Laptop. I also noticed that this work has to be accurate or your network will suffer serious problems. An In-depth knowledge of how networks run is a must in order to connect properly. Another problem that was encountered was that K-Sate does not allow anyone to transfer information wirelessly on their network.

References- WINSCP file transfer software, a computer running Windows XP or Vista, and a Lab01 handout sheet that gave us clear instructions on what to do and how to do it.

Conclusion: The first lab was intended to broaden our knowledge on basic networking using WINSCP. Most of the things I have learned during Lab 01 are new to me except for uploading files to the net. I learned that with this networking system, my personal laptop is unable to download files from the web. I needed to be connected to a LAN. The settings of the IT department do not allow for wireless ftp transfer. That did slow down the process before I figured out what the problem was.

Objectives

Introduce Python Programming for familiarization into setting up a network

Equipment List

Windows XP workstations connected to a network and using Python software.

Notes and Observations

The use of Python language to make a connection between two device was very informative. One computer had to run different segments of a program written in Python. One computer had to act as the client and the other as the server. We did run into some issues because I was trying to use my MacbookPro to talk to another computer with now success. after further deliberation, the idea to change the port number was brought up to try. SO we changed the port on both computer from the current port number to port 80. To our success, we were able to speak between devices. Others experienced lack of comms due to running too many python windows at the same time. That program is prone to not running correctly with numerous windows open. Once that was figured, we were able to run successful sessions between all computers.

Each host requires a unique IP address

Each host requires a subnet mask

Each host requires a gateway address(if the network uses a router)

Our class C address is 192.168.10.0, and with a default subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, provide three unique IP addresses for computers that will operate on this network:

Router 1. 192.168.10.1

2. 192.168.10.2

3. 192.168.10.3

1. Remove all computer from the network to reconnect them using a switch and hub networking device

2. remove any TCP/IP address associated with your machines under the network setting in the control panel. The dataLink layer that the computers are communicating with

3. Check the connectivity between computers on the same network using the command prompt “ping Ip address of other devices.

4. Next we set up the router which must have two IP addresses, one for each network. Connect both routers using a patch cord and with the router is itself the gateway, it does not require a gateway address. using Hyperterminal to manually configure the router follow the steps provided in the lab handout.

5. Since our small network does not yet include Domain name Service(DNS) all of the network members can be only made to contact by IP addresses and not host name

6. last thing was to test the connectivity between computer using ping name or IP address.

Conclusions

The purpose of this lab was to learn the procedure of constructing a stand alone network by understanding the basic requirements of of a TCP/IP network. This assignment brought a sense of good accomplishment with achieving a successful link between a small network. It can be very time consuming because everything must be correct so much attention to detail is required for this type of work. An awesome exercise though.
