Eames Cards- Holiday Samples

Happy days

This is one I just added some feather to, and put some happy holiday text into this card. I kept it faily simple.

All I did to this was add a US stamp to this that translated "Greetings" from Arabic to English. I wanted to add a banner that said happy holidays in Arabic but had no luck on the translation.

Where to spend the Holidays

My idea for this is to represent the many choices people go through to figure out where they want to spend the holidays. I added a few more directional arrows, airplanes, a few clouds, and the names of some cities to give an idea of the choices.

Thoughts This Week

October 20, 2009 by willyj16

This week has been an exciting week for me. My thoughts have been wrapped around the  composition of design and keeping an eye on different aspects of how to bring it all together into something others will marvel at. Throughout the week I have been searching for different settings to bring balance to various design projects I am working on for different. I am doing the solo graphic design so it is a bit difficult to bring all these elements together into something amazing. It leaves me a bit a different nervous for the finished product. I have learned so much during this course of study . I didn’t realize there was a number of requirements and alternatives that are necessary to good design.

Open Mic Night

October 12, 2009 by willyj16

Wow! This past week has been quite exciting for learning how to bring colors together and recognize them. I am also taking a digital photography class in which I am also learning how to compose pictures through various shapes, time of day, learning how to properly use a digital camera. I am very excited at all of the technology capabilities right at my finger tips for which before I had not even realized how far off I was on knowing about colors and how they affect everything. The aspect of design has been an important factor in my thoughts for the past few weeks as well. The is just so much information out there that I am just overwhelmed as much as I am excited at the possibilities of seeing my name up in lights one day as a Top Notch designer or somewhere close to it. I have been finding myself hosting small class sessions of how to better compose photographs and use the Adobe platform and the different name of color patterns. It’s all too exciting for me to do this. I like to able to help people learn to do better and be more productive and efficient with their efforts. I have also been looking at investing in the Adobe Lightroom software for better management and editing of digital software. I think there are not enough hours in the day for me to do what I want to do with all this technology. I will end it right here because I don’t want to seem like I am rambling on and on.

Alternate Analagous

Now this Alternate Analagous color scheme was a bit of a nusiance. I think we all were ready to eat some Spangles by the time we found this one. All that bending and reaching caused us to expend a few extra calories. I think this was the one that I didn't like the most because it was on a pair of shoes that I most certainly wouldn't buy even if I wasn't paying for them. It took an eye of great detail to spot that scheme. A few of the schemes were pretty difficult to put together because they were not of the primary colors so it made it a bit harder to match them up.

Monochromatic

Aww, the Monochromatic color scheme that I kept getting the name mixed up with monochrome. Natasha kept insisting on correcting my pronunciation of the word. I think this was her favorite because she was able to show off a little bit of her swagger..lol.. Although, she doesn't look like a pink lover to me. These shades of pink certainly don't work for me. I have worn pink before but it is just something I don't do often to keep the Peanut gallery quiet. You know what I mean, right?

Split Compliment

October 12, 2009 by willyj16
The Split compliment color scheme here ws a good choice and very creative on how to bring the colors together by piecing them in a way that one would normally look over. This combination works for me to sit on but that's about it. I don't foresee myself wearing any combination of those colors. I think it was a good idea to be seated as if we were in a socially relaxed setting.

Air Warrior

Light Metal Age I seem to have a liking for the color blue . I don’t know why. The cover stood out to me because of the contrast of the color of the fighter plane against the bright blue background.  It presented an easy to look at  fairly simple cover that centers your attention on the jet.

The cover space suits this jet perfectly. the focus is on the materials used to make this jet lighter, faster, more maneuverable, and of course, the most dominant. It seems to be only one central focal point that the authors of this magazine are trying to send.

The typography is very simple, calm , straight to the point, and arranged more like a military document from my experience. They like nothing extravagant. Don’t beat around the bush. Just give me the bottom line up front.

The picture is a good depiction of the climbing power of this jet which is attributed the use of a lighter metal combination as you can see by the afterburner. This picture makes me not want to have this jet on my tail with that type of technology at his fingertips.

The use of the powder blue background goes over quite well with the grey tone of the jet. The matching of the flames from the engine with the font color of the main heading is surely a plus for this cover.

The subject matter is direct and to the point. There are very few topics other than discussing the joining of metals and going green with the new metal technology.

I think the overall design is okay for an audience that doesn’t have much time to check out too much of anything else in this magazine. They didn’t want to give you too much to chew on. Just keeping it simple.

Play Hard

This magazine caught my eye by the way the gentleman was sitting on the fender of this power vehicle. I envisioned myself being that man one day. This magazine caught my eye by the way the gentleman was sitting on the fender of this power vehicle. I envisioned myself being that man one day. Power suit, power tie, power shoes, you know the whole works. It made want to photoshop this image and put my head on the image and pin it up on my wall as a visual depiction of my soon to be self. The cover space actually reminded me of doing a shape drawing of Gerard Butler. The whole cover appeared as is it were drawn around the man's body, car, and having a contour fit down his left arm. I believe all the cover space is used to promote some type of design aspect. I thought it to be very effective use of space because it doesn't bombard your eyes and have you wandering all over the page. I think there is just enough text to keep you interested in what's next. The style of letters and arrangement used in this cover were well placed. The emphasizing of the word Engineer and Year in the main subject of this cover puts into your mind that this is an important and highly sought after accomplishment. The upward angled picture of the man and the car makes him appear as though he were a giant looking over everyone else and him being as equally large as the building off to his side. The look on the man's face looks like he wants o ask this question, Who can touch this? The angle of the car draws a mystery in my mind to what kind of car it is. The choice of colors for this layout were very fitting for this cover. The color the man's shirt, pants and background all go together like bacon and eggs--turkey bacon that is. The only colors that draw your attention are the red, and the yellow. The is not too much yellow in the upper portion of the cover so your attention will stay on the bold-faced white text signifying advancements and new innovation. The subject for me is quite interesting because I a lover of new technology and innovation. So this is like gazing through the window of a candy store from the pages of a magazine. You just want to get in there and taste or in this case, test it all. There are a wide range of topics that keep the gerbil running inside of your head as to, what are they going to come up with next?. I am impressed with the design except, I would've like to see more of the car. I liked the professional look to the gentleman but realizing that he can play hard with the big boys. I like the shoes too.

Time Magazine – Glenn Beck

September 27, 2009 by willyj16
This magazine cover drew my attention because of the eye-catching facial expression of Glenn Beck and knowing him as being a very influential reporter especially when it comes to our economic issues. I was also drawn to this magazine because of the title that was given him "Mad Man". The use of cover space I thought was well put together because of the thick borders that surround the main topic and the large picture of Glenn Beck centered on the page. It would seem that all the space was used in a manner that directed all your attention toward the ridiculous expression of the main character. The typography was a certain compliment to the cover as well. The large sized block print of the Mad Man title leaves you with no doubt of what this person on the cover is being portrayed as. The rest of the font in the upper portion of the cover having a small almost minute part of this cover. The photographs taken by whoever are a sure compliment to this cover as well. The detail of Glenn's face, facial expression, and the position of the light really sets the stage for the title of Mad Man. The smaller picture of Dan brown's latest book on Masonic Ardor in the upper left corner angled so that it gives you a sense of mystery about the book. I personally thought that book would be a little more important than Glenn Beck. I think that flu phobia picture is a bit dramatic. I don't think someone is going to walt around all day with their arm over their face like that. It suits the subject well but a bit extreme. The colors I thought were exceptional for this edition. The color of Dan Brown's book even went with the color flow of the cover. The bright face color of Glenn contrasting with the blue background really forces your eyes to focus just on him sticking out his tongue. The red border draws your attention like that of a fire. Also the white text just jumps right out at you saying, read me! read me! I think all of the subject matter mentioned on the cover is worth the time to read. They are all important issues that are going on in our society. Although, does Glenn Beck really deserve the front cover. I would have to say two thumbs up to the designer of this edition. I was impressed by the layout as soon as I laid eyes on it. It seems every color in this cover just flows in harmony. I don't believe a better could've been picked for this edition.
